Sperm whale / Pottwal

Posted by: admin in Untagged  on

Hi everyone,

Splendid, finally we saw a whale, a sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) and we took lots of pictures...

Our boat bakery with famous baker men Jule never let the oven cool down. Now it looks like our energy recourses are

failing. But we do not care, it is so hot now, we prefer sandwich and cold drinks.

Rio de janeiro lies straight ahead. We want to submerge into this vital town after days at sea.
Unfortunately we are late for carneval.

Cheers

Rocking like crazy, outside only the main sail with three reefs and the storm jib sail.

There were some gale force winds here through the night, winds in excess of 50 knots (58 mph/93 km/h) but we were not concerned because the boat was handling it all very well.

However the wind permitted us sail until 8 knots.

Everything is fine and the crew is feeling well.

So folks, from all aboard we send you greetings until the next post.

Hello Folks,

So, some of you may be wondering what we do on board all day. Firstly, there is a watch roster and somebody is on watch at all times.

When not sleeping or on watch, there is a lot of reading, philosophizing or relaxing,  taking place.
You really have the feeling life slow nice down on board.

Everything takes it´s time, just like our way today. Unfortunatly the wind comes from the direction we want to go, so obligate us to head out a little bit more east.

Our last 24 hours where not so good becouse of the wrong direcction of the wind, but do not be worry it will change again!.

Everybody is also busy tuning up his sailing skills.

Then somebody has to cook our "only" set meal "together", dinner. We have quite a selection of frozen meats. We have also vegetables and dry stuff and hopefully soon plenty of fish. So, around lunch time we decide who is the cook for the evening meal and what that meal will be. Most of the time someone takes the initiative. Everybody helps. We have no pre-cooked meals so each meal is prepared from the raw ingredients.

We also spend time on deck marvelling at the seascape.
Close in to the Brazilian coast we will start seeing more bird life and, hopefully, some dolphin.

Well, as the Santa Maria Australis sails, our greetings to all the readers and our thanks for follow us.
Your Crew
